Sapling Tour… and animal faces

Sorry we didn’t get a chance to post a day-by-day account of this tour. We’ve had really limited internet access so here’s what we learned on tour…

Llandudno is pronounced with a ‘K’ at the start

The Boiler Room in Guildford is well named - hottest venue we’ve ever played!

Fraser Urie of Pacific Theatre fame has a double in a Guildford band called Cubrick, he also plays Bass - weird!

Some people can’t quite work out that Gav is not the singer in the band because he stands in the middle of the stage (even without a microphone).

Laura Meahan stays in the same house they filmed the movie ‘Home Alone’ which is 2 doors down from George Michael’s old house

We found out what ‘Klushing’ was

Snuggies are awesome

Babz’ chilli rules all

The new Light Guides album is TASTY

Driving in London is quite similar to that old cartoon ‘Wacky Races’

The Natural History Museum of London is free… and AWESOME!

The Natural History Museum of London have removed the Cannabis plant from their exhibit.

Leeds to Aberdeen is a long fucking way!

Ross Calder will never stop growing tall and AGP is one of the best gig promoters in the country.

Sara’s house is the best house for partying

Becky Addison’s hardcore screaming doesn’t quite look right.

Jon Arbuthnott is a funny, funny guy. He is also very good at reading poetry.

Apparently Barcelona beat Manchester United 3-1 in a game called the “Champions League Final”

Big Al demands that I use the Great Destroyer

Ben + Brew Dog beer is not a good mix

Kieran should not be playing drums in Penguins Kill Polar Bears - his true calling is in Crab Core

Screaming too hard makes you pull back muscles some times.

“The Hulks Finger”

Kieran Naughton is amazing at the sound stuff

Ok, so some of these are in jokes, but we had a really good time on this tour so thank you to everyone who came to shows, came to chat, bought some merch, put us up or put us on.

Hopefully we’ll be back to some of these places again soon.

Here’s some pictures taken by either me or Cara Buchan.

Much Love

Fraser

Tour Starts Sunday!

Our Sapling Tour starts this Sunday.

Who’s coming?

We’re excited. We’ve missed the van.

Missed the show last night? Download here.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to listen to us takeover Radio Enjoyment last night. We had an absolute blast. We played a lot of good music and talked some absolute bollocks and pulled it off like true pros! And with only one ‘Fuck!’

Guys, please have us back!

If you missed the show then you can download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?6uo896wop4cdz3j

We hope we didn’t suck!

WE WANT THE AIRWAVES BACK!!!

This Thursday 19th May we shall be taking over the airwaves at Edinburgh Uni’s Fresh Air student radio station from 7-9pm (GMT)

Be sure to tune in here - http://www.freshair.org.uk/

We’ll have Luke from I Build Collapsible Mountains in playing some tracks for us live in the studio and they’ve told us that we can pretty much play and do whatever the hell we want! This excites us. What kind of mischief can we get up to?

Make sure you listen in and get in contact with us with your suggestions. We’ll be on email and facebook and tweeting throughout the show and stuff so if you want us to play a certain track or want Gav to do some mental shit on webcam just drop us a line.

Watch out Zane! We’re coming for ya!

Jude Dryden, what have you let yourself in for?

Classic Rock Magazine track of the day

Hello!

We are track of the day today in Classic Rock Magazine. AWESOME!

Article here - http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news/track-of-the-day-penguins-kill-polar-bears-2/

That’s not us on the cover.

Imagine it was!

Imagine we were K.I.S.S.

That would be incredible! Ben could be a great Paul Stanley!

Sorry we’ve been a bit quiet recently. We’ve been plotting and planning and rehearsing for our Tour which is now just over a week away. We are very excited.

We’ll see you real soon.

Love xxx

Xcerts Show

Just wanted to give a little thanks to everyone involved in the show at Studio 24 last Friday.

Thank you to everyone who came through especially to see us.

Thank you to everyone who came for the other bands, and then watched us and chatted to us after the show. Hopefully we’ll see some of you at Cab Vol in May?

Big thank you to Sara who paid into the gig and then worked the merch stand like an absolute boss!

Thanks to Luke for his efforts on Friday, Saturday aaaaaand Sunday.

Thank you to Nick at Sneaky’s and The Xcerts for asking us to play.

Rock On!

Apology

It looks like our special Vessels & Viens US import CD’s will not be here in time for Record Store Day on Saturday.

Sorry about that! Epic Penguin Fail, I know, I know.

Star Trek facepalms are the best facepalms. I feel Sisko was the most underrated of all the captains, he took NO SHIT! Especially from they Cardassians (not to be confused with the Kardashians for non-geeks).

Anyway, they are on their way to us so we’ll probably put them up for online sale or sell them at some shows, so if anyone would like a copy just drop us a line.

Sorry again folks.

Record Store Day (this saturday)

Penguins Kill Polar Bears shall be doing a short acoustic set at Avalanche Records in Edinburgh to celebrate Record Store Day at 5pm. The lineup for the day is as follows:

Frightened Rabbit @ 1pm
Gordon McIntyre of Ballboy @ 2.30pm
The Last Battle @ 3pm (playing next door at Red Dog)
Penguins Kill Polar Bears @ 5pm

In the spirit of record store day, we shall have some copies of our Vessels & Veins EP on US import available for sale at Avalanche on the day. The EP includes the following tracks and is packaged in an exclusive digipak sleeve:

1.       Lungs

2.       Wish With Worry

3.       Between The Tide

4.       In Everything (US Mix)

5.       Homebound (US Mix)

6.       Something Old

These EP’s will be available only at Saturday and only at Avalanche Records, there won’t be any general online sale afterwards (I’m sure if you can’t make it to Edinburgh on the day then we can help you out though so just drop us an email).

Not going to get all high and mighty and start telling you that you’re a scumbag if you don’t buy every piece of music from your local indie record shop. I know I’ve picked up a few bargains from Amazon in my time and all of us are guilty of the odd illegal download. But we all believe that local record shops should be supported. Big chain stores (pretty sure HMV are the only ones left now) and online stores like Amazon and Play do not promote local music, they do not put on instore gigs (certainly not in Scotland), they have absolutely no interest in you or what you’re buying/listening to. I think it’s a well-documented fact that people who run independent record shops are doing it because they love music, they are interested in what you like, they’ll help you find that rare piece of music that you’re looking for and while you’re at it, have you heard this… etc.

They’re also a great place to pick up some absolute gems! I’m pretty sure my entire Beastie Boys collection came from the likes of Avalanche and I got them all for a couple of quid each and there’s always something good playing on the stereo, quite often you can find your new favourite band that way.

Record store day gives you a chance to pick up some really cool exclusive releases by some great bands (and the Pigeon Detectives), so I highly recommend that you go down to your nearest store this Saturday and then go back again when you have some spare cash.

And to whoever wrote that article for the NME this week about how kids should download all their music illegally and spend their money on clothes and drugs… get yersel tae fuck mate!

Damn the Man!

Save the Empire!

Support your local Record Store!

Fraser.

On The Road Again…

Just announced our next tour. All info is in the lovely poster below.

Can’t wait to be back in that van again and get playing some SHOOOOWWWWSSS!!!!

Also - don’t forget, Studio 24 in Edinburgh this Friday night opening for The Xcerts. Tickets are available on the door if you don’t have them already. If you mention Penguins Kill Polar Bears at the door then you’ll get in for 5 bucks!

Next Saturday we’re going to be playing at Avalanche records in the Grassmarket as part of Record Store Day. Should have another blog about this next week when we have more details but it’s going to be good. We love Record Store Day. My wallet does NOT love record store day.

Cheers to Jon as well for putting in a shift with the artwork this week.

And remember - The Cylons were created by man. But they evolved. They Rebelled. There are many copies. And they have a plan.

Bit of a rant about bands who split up and NEW RECORDING TIMES

It is with great regret that Penguins Kill Polar Bears will be going on Hiatus after our show with The Xcerts next Friday.

We’re not sure how long this Hiatus will last, but we reckon it will end when we announce our next show / tour which will probably be in a few weeks time

Thank you to everyone along the road who has supported us an…. blah blah blah!

You know what grinds my gears? Bands these days who announce they’re splitting up for whatever reason and they’re hardly gone a few years before they announce they’re touring again. I think they rip the piss a wee bit here. Especially when people pay inflated prices to see your last ever show that isn’t your last ever show

Not naming names, but you know who you are!

And LCD Soundsystem - one of my favourite bands of the past 10 years are playing their LAST EVER SHOW this saturday in New York. If they become the ‘big band reunited for Coachella 20xx’ or ‘doing a one off tour to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Sound Of Silver,’ or something equally gash, honestly, I’ll be heartbroken.

Seriously though, LCD - what a band!

Rant over. We’ve been in the Studio this week to record what will be a single we’re going to release some time in May. Quite looking forward to letting you guys hear it, some of you may have already heard it at some of our shows over the past month but it’s going to sound super awesome once Marshall and Gav get their production paws on it and add some beef stock!

We’ve done a B-side as well. Well… not quite a B-side, it’s not as if it’s a 7” single (although that is something we’re looking into for the future), so just think of it as 2 brand new PKPB tracks for you to get into. We felt like we’d be cheating you a bit if we just released one tiny little track, so we did two.

Pretty sure this is going to be a download only thing but if any of you guys would like something more physical then drop us a line on Facebook or email or something and I’m sure we could knock something up. Maybe do a tape, remember tapes? Retro! maybe we could sell them in Urban Outfitters? Oooooohhhh, yeah, I went there!

We can’t wait for you to hear these songs. Especially Ben. Most of you know how excitable Ben can get, well, right now he looks like he’s having a constant seizure, he’s that excited, just shaking all the time saying “oh my god, oh my god, I’m so excited for this new single”

I fear for the boy, I really, really do. One day his constant excitement will give him a stroke.
